I...Yeah, I noticed it was significantly longer too. I got scared I was going on and on and tried to delete some things, lol.

I was going to comment on Vincent's character spoiler at the end under "Ending" thoughts like I usually do and put a spoiler warning, but decided against it because most people wait out until they finish the series before reading my review anyway if they absolutely don't want it spoiled. I wanted to share my thoughts on Vincent's character and performance all in one place, so I just put the spoiler there. Sorry, haha.

Character wise, Carson was Vincent's representative work and got the public to acknowledge him. Since then tho, he hasn't had any notable characters and performances and even kinda took a step backward. "Wayne" in W&S was ok, but underdeveloped and his performance was so so. To me, Ah Hin may not be his best character, but a positive step forward and his most natural performance. He's showing a lot of improvements and he delivers his dialogue a lot more smoothly without adding English in. Vincent was overshadowed through out the whole series, but was able to shine in the finale.

Mhm, Joe definitely did do well as the big brother. I loved how he always looked out and cared so much for his team. :)

Really? This is the first series in recent years I've seen of Jessica's that has psychological depth. What other roles are you thinking of? I think she's a natural actress, but admit she can be a bit "dry" at times. I still loved her in GMG tho.

Yep, best cast ensemble in a long time. This is actually my favorite cast ensemble since GMG. :) Haha, if TVB wants to add more members to the SDU team, I hope Matthew is invited to film a sequel if one were to happen. ;)Irishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03761963266985932287noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5277205963978597549.post-51444804166337934152012-08-21T12:34:42.932-04:002012-08-21T12:34:42.932-04:00Yes, I don't care about ratings either, as it ...Yes, I don't care about ratings either, as it definitely does not accurately represent which series are good and which are not. However, there's no denying ratings has a correlation with the series' recognition. Luckily, Tiger Cubs had huge buzz and word of mouth. Even if they don't grab something at the Anniversary Awards, the series and the cast will probably be rewarded elsewhere too. Crossing my fingers it gets into the top 5 of Best Drama. If after the grand productions and anniversary series air, and TC is still my favorite, I will support TC for Best Drama! It will prolly be this year's "black horse".

Yes, a sequel makes sense for TC. There's so much else they could develop on. More cases, and not necessarily more romantic scenes, but more development for the characters. I'd love to see them mature and grow even more. I'd actually hope they wouldn't pull the cheesy twin brother storyline with Vincent's character, as much as I love him. It wouldn't be the same. :( But it'd be great if they could find a logical way to have him take part in the sequel.

Thanks for the comment!Irishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03761963266985932287noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5277205963978597549.post-87077573158457586242012-08-21T12:29:25.568-04:002012-08-21T12:29:25.568-04:00Haha, finish it soon so you can read the whole rev...Haha, finish it soon so you can read the whole review! ;)

At the least, TVB showed us they can still pull off a good show if they put the effort and resources into it. Now if only they would do that with all their series (as they SHOULD).Irishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03761963266985932287noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5277205963978597549.post-32349860850216636092012-08-20T02:27:43.696-04:002012-08-20T02:27:43.696-04:00Nice, thorough review. It seems longer than your r...Nice, thorough review. It seems longer than your recent reviews, seeing how much you enjoyed the series. I believe you hit the points pretty on spot and I share a similar opinion on most characters.

I haven't watched the last 2 episodes and read the spoiler on Vincent's character, but that's okay since I kinda expected for spoilers when I read a review. Maybe because I haven't seen the ending yet, so I can't say it's Vincent's best performance to date. He was kinda a background character for me, less screen time than Him and Oscar, but a little bit more than Benjamin and William. I still think Carson is his representative work that made the public acknowledge him. Although there were several media reports on TC, it was not only for Vincent himself, but Oscar, Him, William, and Benjamin all had good responses from the audience.

Joe might not have stood out as much as his subordinates (lol?), but I like how he played the "big brother" of the group. At times he was rash when some criminals got on his nerves, but he was respected by his team as a good leader.

Jessica still gets these characters with "psychological" depth after all these years. Or is it just her style of acting? I've been really begin to appreciate her acting in her last few works, surprisingly, because she struck me as a "dry" actress when I first started watching TVB.

Overall, I haven't enjoyed such a great cast ensemble in a long time. TC really had it with TVB's fittest boys.Krisellenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5277205963978597549.post-75741627988950684462012-08-20T02:06:11.418-04:002012-08-20T02:06:11.418-04:00Totally agree with your entire review! This was d...Totally agree with your entire review! This was definitely one of the best series this year (if not THE best) – though sadly, it didn’t make it into the Top 10 in terms of highest rated series (the Saturday timeslot dragged it down…the series was getting consistently high ratings in the Sunday timeslot). I’m not one to care about ratings at all (never have been and never will be), but unfortunately, the reality is that the HK television industry is all about ratings – that’s why a lot of times, even though I personally don’t give a care whether a series has high ratings or not, sometimes I do root for good ratings mostly for the sake of the cast and crew, since according to TVB standards, a series that gets high ratings means that it will likely have a decent chance at getting an award at the end of the year (for the record, I don’t care about TVB’s awards either, since they’re such a joke nowadays it’s not even funny) – but again, for the sake of the artists I like as well as the cast and crew of series like this one who deserve to be awarded, I wish it did have higher ratings.
Anyway, I guess the ‘consolation’ prize is that the series had such great word of mouth and was extremely well-received by audiences as well as industry people. Oh, and this is probably the only time you’ll hear me say this, but this is one of those series where I’m actually looking forward to a sequel because unlike other TVB series, it actually DOES make sense to do a sequel for this series. There is still so much material that could be used in the sequel and so many storylines that could be developed, so doing a sequel would definitely be a good thing. Of course though, if they’re going to do a sequel, they better re-assemble the original cast (except for Christine – I’m totally fine if they got rid of her in the finale because I totally could not stand her in this series) – and that INCLUDES Vincent (for once, I’m ok with TVB doing some cheesy ‘twin brother’ storyline with Vincent’s character, since I liked him too much in this series and he’s way too valuable a character in here to not include in the sequel)!!
llwy12https://www.blogger.com/profile/02401832364832078932noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5277205963978597549.post-6231573373282203152012-08-19T02:34:28.239-04:002012-08-19T02:34:28.239-04:00I still have to finish this series...so in order t...I still have to finish this series...so in order to avoid potential spoilers, I only read your overall thoughts x)

Haha from what I've seen, totally agree that the execution of the series is so far the best...the filming is so much better than the usual tvb series! I was impress with their action scenes! Guess this is what we get when tvb is "willing" to spend some more money. If only if they'd do it more often :P This is why I'm excited for The Confidant...finally something filmed outside of tvb city :P

Lynnehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17241790365368846383noreply@blogger.com
