Synopsis

This is a love story between a professor and a policewoman. Their dating experience is enhanced with sense and sensibility through the application of interesting physics theories on the investigation of various crime cases.

KING POK (Raymond Lam) is regarded as the youngest genius in physics and he is appointed as an associate professor in a Hong Kong university. Invited by his good friend LO TIN-HANG (Kenneth Ma), Senior Inspector of Police at Regional Crime Unit, POK assists in cracking many mysterious crime cases and he also meets the policewoman CHUI SIU-LAI (Tavia Yeung) during the process. The rational POK evaluates that he has fallen in love with LAI because of a love hormone called “phenylalanine”. However, owing to the huge difference in their family background and life value, POK fails to tackle their ever-changing relationship problems with formulas.

On the other hand, the romantic and uninhibited HANG has been maintaining a sex only relationship with the journalist LING MAN-KA (Bernice Liu). HANG doesn’t believe in eternity and he is only looking for sensual pleasure in a woman. However, his belief is suddenly shattered when he learns that MAN is going to get married.

Comments: It's finally here! Can't wait. The cast is awesome and we already know they'll have chemistry. Not only does it have four popular leads, Raymond Wong and Ruco Chan will both join the supporting cast as intelligent villains. Phew, I thought I wouldn't see Ruco for quite some time. I love case solving series and this looks like it'll have a couple good ones. Hopefully, it doesn't turn out to be copied too much from Detective Galileo, the series The Mysteries of Love was based off of. The physics theme is fresh and sounds interesting. I really hope this series doesn't disappoint!

Synopsis

To prevent Ha from getting too out of hand, Wan needs her matrilocal husband Ho Cheung Hing (Bowie Lam) to create trouble for her sibling. Hing does not follow her instructions, but instead secretly helps Ha tackle her problems one by one. Wan soon comes to realize that Hing has never really got over Ha. Wan's little sister Chu Pik Lam (Macy Chan) is still attending school and too young to deal with such family issues. Wan feels a profound sense of helplessness and becomes even more frustrated when So Lai Sheung (Joyce Tang) turns up suddenly claiming to be a mistress of her late father and pregnant with his baby. Out of respect for their father, the sisters agree to put Sheung up for the time being until the situation becomes clearer. Shortly thereafter, Ha discovers that Sheung is just a tool of her cousin Hung Yiu Sang (Michael Tao), who has been plotting to wage a battle of wills against the Chus.

Comments: Looks promising and dramatic! Hope it's not overdone though. The cast is great though I'm not a fan of Kiki. Should be interesting to see Jessica as an antagonist. Major fans of Joyce and Macy as well. We'll see how this goes...

Synopsis

Comments: I'm a little late in posting the series info this time, haha. Anyway, I haven't started the series so I can still give my 'initial thoughts.' The series looks lame and exaggerated (and I've heard it is). I expect top notch acting with unusual and unrealistic plot. On a side note, this has got to be the worst TVB poster ever. So cheesy!

Synopsis

CHEONG opens a Chinese herbal tea shop but the business is failing. YAN drags through the days stressfully until NG CHUNG-MING (Joe Ma) comes into her life. MING claims to have a secret prescription for making Chinese herbal tea but he is actually an undercover police. By investigating YAN’s case, MING hopes to get promoted and marry his inspector girlfriend CHEUNG SZ-MAN (Sharon Chan) at the end. MING’s supervisor CHEUNG SZ-CHAI (Power Chan) used to oppress him a lot and MING is losing confidence at work. However, ever since he meets the cheerful YAN, MING begins to develop his self-esteem and find his life path. His delicate relationship with YAN also starts to grow.

MING’s younger brother NG CHUNG-HONG (Him Law) meets YAN’s younger sister CHENG SIU-MAN (Mandy Wong) and love grows spontaneously. However, YAN finds out MING’s identity and she believes that the two brothers are making use of them to carry out investigation. On the other hand, MING learns that YAN’s cousin LEUNG KING-HO (Louis Yuen) is just released from jail and he is familiar with the gang leader, and YAN is considered in connection with the case. Their blossoming relationship is thrown into turmoil as they get closer to the truth.

Comments: No fan of Flora and without a doubt she is the least versatile out of TVB's top four fa dans. I've realized I can like Joe and enjoy his performance, but only with a good character (Topman in Born Rich). Sharon does not look the part of an inspector at all so I'm doubtful. At the moment the only thing that interests me right now about the series is seeing Him Law and Mandy Wong. Two of my new favs! :)

Synopsis

In search of the last model for his painting “Nine Pretty Women”, acclaimed scholar TONG PAK FU (Moses Chan) goes on a trip to Hangzhou with his ardent disciple WAT KEI (Lee Sze Chit). While there, he meets a pretty young maid from WAH’s Residence, CHAU HEUNG (Myolie Wu). FU is mesmerized by HEUNG’s beauty and martial agility and falls in love with her right away. In order to approach the girl, he disguises as a servant and assumes the pseudonym WAH ON, seeking to win her affections with his talent and ingenuity. But contrary to his wishes, HEUNG is unmoved and even harbours an intense dislike for him after a series of misunderstandings. Master of the family WAH HUNG SHAN (Ha Yu) knew from the very beginning that FU is not a common man. By the time his true identity is revealed, the scholar has already developed a close bond with the whole of the family, except HEUNG.
In the meantime, Prince LING (Savio Tsang), who has been attempting to rebel against Emperor CHING TAK (Lai Lok Yi), has managed to involve FU in his conspiracy by stratagem, thus getting the man and the WAHs into big trouble. LING’s daughter CHU TING YUK (Fala Chen) is in love with FU. Desperate to save her dream man, she forces LING to release FU by threatening to kill herself. YUK’s consuming passion for FU seems to have caused a ripple of unease in HEUNG, who is starting to feel a little twinge of jealousy inside.

Comments: The only reason for me to watch this is to see Fala in her first ancient role. Um, yeah. That's pretty much it. The plot seems dumb and reminds me of A Bride for a Ride. Plus, I just can't imagine Lai Lok Yi as an emperor.

Comments: It's finally (almost) here! This is the series I've been anticipating for forever. We'll finally get to see the versatile Maggie Cheung make her comeback! May it be a strong one indeed. As Maggie Cheung has always been professional and picky when selecting her roles and series, I'm holding onto the hope that this will be above average. It looks funny and cute, can't wait!

He blames all these on his unattractive appearance. One day, he gets a pack of magical chocolates by chance. He eats one, and transforms into a heartthrob instantly. He changes his name to KAN LIK SHUN (Wong Yeung Tat & Poon Man Hung), and he hits stardom almost overnight. The magical chocolates have a time limit though. His personal assistant, KING CHI KO (Wong Yeung Tat & Poon Man Hung), discovers his secret. Fortunately, instead of disclosing it, she works even harder to help him. SHUN is getting more and more popular, even famous star TSE ON FEI (Kate Tsui) is going after him. There are only a few chocolates left. Then SHUN meets a scientist, who gives him a magical chocolate that has no time limit. If SHUN eats it, TUNG will disappear from the earth for good. Before he makes the decision, he is surprised to find that KO has tried the magical chocolates, too.

Comments: First, the HK entertainment industry was covered in the intriguing The Beauty of the Game. Now, HK's music industry shall be covered, featuring innuendos of popular singers Kay Tse and so on. That is my main reason to watch it, as well as seeing the short but talented Wong Cho Lam and Kitty Yuen finally collaborating. Unfortunately, the synopsis seems cheesy. The fact that Bosco and Kate are in the series make me not so crazy about it as well.

Synopsis

When making their way out of the maze, the three of them begin to hesitate. Can one’s love life really be predicted?

Unlike his childhood friend LAM, PO does not believe in horoscopes. But this does not affect their friendship at all and they are even closer than ever. PO is held up to ridicule while trying to save LAM from her lovelorn woe. Believing that PO is her Mr. Right, LAM seeks every opportunity to express her love for him. Sadly PO has realized this too late, and LAM is already going out with HO, with whom she is very compatible in terms of star signs, personalities and interests. HO’s ex-girlfriend FONG CHEUK KEI (Mandy Cho) cannot bear to part from the man, forcing LAM to give up on the relationship reluctantly. During this most difficult time, PO has once again stood by LAM with tender loving care. As time goes by, the pair has gradually developed a genuine affection for each other. All of a sudden, HO turns up and asks to get back with LAM. To LAM, HO is a dream while PO helps keep her feet on the ground. Who is she going to stay with in the end?

Comments: Unfortunately, this synopsis screams 'boring!' Then again, TVB's synopsis' aren't the best written things (just like their scripts). Believe it or not, the person who made me decide to give this series a try was not any of our three leads, Tavia, Steven, or Michael. Nope, it's Ruco Chan. I'm hoping he has a major supporting role as his screen time in all of his series from last year (The Threshold of an Era, A Great Way to Care, Burning Flame 3) were limited. The versatile and underrated actor is also in need of a breakthrough role. Other than that, nothing seems to interest me right now, but I'm hoping it'll give me a pleasant surprise. I wish they had kept the title as The Stars of Love though because Cupid Stupid indeed sounds stupid. Couldn't they have at least made it Stupid Cupid so it sounds more grammatically correct? Lol.

However, LAM mistakenly recognizes CHING as her senior apprentice and she runs after him all the time. CHING seizes the chance to swindle money by working at the bistro. After a series of incidents, CHUN and CHING unexpectedly have crush on each other. CHUN feels caught in the middle between CHING and her childhood friend LEUNG GAU MUI (Derek Kwok). All of a sudden, LAM’s second senior apprentice YAM FEI YEUNG (Ng Wai Kwok) returns home with his foster son YAM SHING TIN (Oscar Leung). YEUNG hopes to get LAM’s heart back to him but CHUN believes that he has intentions behind it. Coming as a surprise, she discovers the secret of CHING…

Comments: So this series is supposed to be a drama/semi comedy? Eh, we'll see how this works out. Though I'm not sure the food theme will be interesting as it's been used several times. I'm hesitant of how the plot will turn out (surprise, surprise) but the synopsis seems intriguing. Although I'm tired of the 'love triangle' I love all three artistes (Esther, Roger, and Derek) so maybe I'll actually enjoy it. It's great to see Esther back and she's a great comedic actress. Hopefully by now, you'll realize that Derek's my all time favorite supporting actor too. He'll probably never get the chance to lead, but I'm psyched he's getting another 'second male lead' role. It looks like Oscar has a bigger role than usual too, so I'm looking forward to that. He's starting to grow on me and he's improved a lot.

Synopsis

A rich woman TSEUNG TIN NGOR (Maggie Siu)’s beloved dog CANDY has got behaviour problems since NGOR is being kidnapped. After released, NGOR takes CANDY for various medical treatments but none of them is helpful to cure its illness. Desperate NGOR finally finds LAI TSUN SING (Kent Cheng), a retired police canine officer, who has just opened a kennel in the walled village. NGOR asks SING to give CANDY training but it creates discord between both of them. When CANDY’s condition is getting better and better, NGOR is pleased and shows deference toward SING. NGOR feels obscured of the kidnapping and she misconceives that the landlord of the kennel, CHOW YUNG KUNG (Steven Ma), is one of the kidnappers. SING gets his trained dog BINGO carrying out an investigation. They finally prove that KUNG is innocent. KUNG appreciates Sing’s efforts and he starts joining the course for learning how to be a dog lover. LAI SIN YUE (Linda Chung), SING’s veterinarian daughter, is aware of her feeling towards him since then.

Comments: In terms of script, theme, and plot, I don't have much confidence for this series. However, I'm looking forward to the refreshing roles for our two leads, Steven and Linda. What I'm most interested in seeing is Steven's 'perverted' role, which is a complete opposite of the good, righteous guys he's played in the past. Though a good actor, Steven is such a sweet gentleman in real life I can't wait to see his performance. Linda's role will be a tomboy and I can't help but think that she looks adorable. I've yet to warm up to her acting, but maybe that will change. I definitely don't mind watching the cute Natalie, quickly improving Raymond, and long legged Koni either.

Driven by sheer vanity, KO CHING MAN (Kate Tsui) takes part in a beauty pageant despite the strong opposition of her mother, a long-retired actress named CHEUNG LAI HUNG (Kingdom Yuen), and leaps to stardom soon after winning the championship. Rising actress TONG HO YEE (Sharon Chan) feels threatened by MAN and decides to join another TV station to look for a breakthrough, which is not supported by her production assistant friend DEACON CHONG (Lai Lok Yi). Leading actress KEUNG CHIN FUNG (Christine Ng) used to be a bitter rival of HUNG. Realizing that MAN’s acting career is taking off at top speed, FUNG means to approach her as a mentor, through which she hopes to drag the girl into her moral downfall bit by bit. The Beauty of the Game is finally coming near, and the synopsis sounds great! Everybody who reads my blog should know that I've been anticipating this series for a long time. I'm looking forward to how TVB will portray the entertainment world, as I'm sure it'll be juicy and interesting. Perhaps they'll even make fun of themselves? It's also the first time we'll get to see Sharon as a villain, who's also a drug addict. Lai Lok Yi is getting the chance to be the male lead for the first time, and it'll be great to see him again and see how he handles the role. I don't think he's a bad actor, he just gets bad roles, as seen in Moonlight Resonance. With the talented Kingdom Yuen and Christine Ng and hilarious Wong Cho Lam, this series should generate some laughs. While the fact that Kate is leading makes me somewhat iffy about it, I can't wait to watch it. :)

Synopsis

Deadbeat SONG refuses to take a full time job and that makes his income change from day to day. A tough collection agent, LAM MIU MIU (Charmaine Sheh), tries every means to push him into a corner. They keep playing tricks on each other and finally become a pair of rival lovers.
By chance, SONG meets his uterine brother ON CHO LIN (Michael Tse Tin Wah). He thereby recalls the tragic memories of the past when his mother deserted him and his father. This triggers the hatred hidden deep inside his heart and leads him to seek revenge against ON’s family. SONG’s abrupt change has left MIU feeling confused.

I'm definitely watching this series. I think it'll be a laugh out loud comedy, because Dayo's in it. I haven't seen any of his series, but he's a comedian and his series are audience favorites. I'm glad I'll finally have the chance to see his comedy. It's obvious that this series will be a comedy, but I wouldn't know that based off the synopsis. The synopsis does not show any hint of comedy, and makes it seem more of a modern drama. Then again, it's probably just not a very good synopsis.

I'm neutral when it comes to Charmaine. Sometimes I'll like her and sometimes I won't, it just depends on her role and performance. She seems a little stiff and bored when she plays professional roles, like in Forensic Heroes ll. A more sweet and lighthearted role would probably fit her better. I'm looking forward to seeing her love hate relationship with Dayo. She looks pretty in the poster and costume fitting pictures too.

Michael Tse is back after the popular Laughing Gor! I can't wait to see him again! Although I never really found the big deal of Laughing and thought he was overrated, I can't deny Michael did an amazing job portraying him. He really gave the role his all and it hardly looks like acting. I'll gladly welcome him back to the TV screen. :)

Of course, it'll be great to see Benz again too. There's no reason to explain why, he's hilarious and charming despite his age! You can't help but enjoy it when he's onscreen!

This is going to be a great series. Oh, no, I'm getting high expectations again! XD Don't let me down TVB!

New Series: A Bride for a Ride

Synopsis:

Foolhardy Tiger Wong (Chin Kar Lok) is annoyed with his mother Lau Bing Tai (Gigi Wong) for consistently pressuring him to get married. He therefore snatches Chow Man Bun (Sammul Chan) who is in female disguise to be his bride and arranges for Bun to stay at his younger sister Wong Sau Ying (Nancy Wu)’s chamber for the night. After this, Tiger has no choice but to marry Ying to Bun while setting up strict rules to torture Bun in the house. Clever Bun makes use of the chivalrous woman Mo Sam Leung (Louisa So) to control Tiger and misleads Leung that Tiger is her long lost rescuer. Using tricks to upset Tiger, he makes Tiger marry Leung. Since then, Leung tries every means to domesticate her husband and that almost drives him insane. Bun is relieved to escape from Tiger’s manipulation but he carelessly causes lots of troubles elsewhere. “A Bride for A Ride” brings you a modern perspective of this traditional tale and you’ll surely be surprised with its astonishing approach.

The plot doesn't seem very appealing and the silliness of it all is a bit of a turnoff. However, I think it will be funny, even if its the ridiculous and crazy type of funny. Previously seeing Chin Ka Lok in The Academy, I'm excited to see him in a lead role as he is humorous. It'll be great to see Nancy Wu again, I think she looks very pretty in ancient series, and her acting never disappoints. My #1 reason to watch this though would be to see my favorite TVB actor Sammul Chan act as a girl. Most of us have heard this by now, AND seen the pictures. I'm sure it'll be hilarious. Sammul is one of the most versatile younger TVB actors, so acting as a girl will be nothing but a challenge that he can easily overcome.

On a side note...I really don't like the poster. >.<

Warehoused Series: A Great Way To Care

Synopsis:

KO LAP YAN (Fong Chung Sun), Senior Psychiatrist of Yan Wo Hospital, is a competent and kind-hearted doctor who specializes in severe schizophrenia and even minor mental illness. YAN cures his patients by not only medication but also by psychological analysis. He diagnoses the cause with reference to the symptoms. The plot is interesting, intricate and extraordinary. The Psychiatrist LIN CHI SUM (Cheung Chi Kwong) and the nurse LI YING CHUN (Wong Ho Yin) are both good friends of YAN. SUM is keen on helping people. He has cured a patient suffering from binge eating disorder SUEN KA PIK (Yeo Vivien). They have overcome a lot of difficulties and become a couple. YAN is a divorced single father with a daughter. After the failed marriage, he did not long for love affairs until he chanced upon an Inspector of Serious Crime Unit MOK MAN YEE (Tsui Tsz Shan, Kate). They have gradually developed their relationship through business contact. However, in order to avoid recurrence of genetic mental disease, YEE detaches her feeling from YAN.

*This series is warehoused because TVB has decided to air previously warehoused series Sweetness in the Salt due to the success of Rosy Business.*

This series does not appeal to me much and I do not plan on watching it, but may anyway just to past the time as my mom intends to watch it soon. The supporting cast is pretty solid and likable, but it is the two main leads that throw me off.

The following below is only MY own opinion, and I do not intend on hurting any 'hypersensitive' fans about my following views of the cast and series.

Unlikable Lead #1:

Alex Fong

I have watched The Building Blocks of Life, and although I do not think of it as a great series, it wasn't as bad as I expected it to be. However, many of the characters annoyed me, and I couldn't 'connect' with any of them. Alex Fong was among the few that annoyed me. I have not seen Alex before, so I will not judge his acting too strongly. However, his performance was frequently dull and boring. Overrall, I do not enjoy watching him on screen.

Unlikable Lead #2:

Kate Tsui

First thing that you learn about me on this blog, is that I do not like Kate. I don't hate her as a person, I do not know about her to do so, but I'm just not fond of her acting. I find that when she is playing a 'good' role, she tries to hard to be cute, and uses a baby voice that annoys me. On the other hand, when she is playing a 'bad' role, she just drives me crazy with how evil her role is. Kate is showing improvements, and I think she'll become a better actress along the way, but I think TVB should not be giving her lead roles so soon. Her first lead role in Speech of Silence had been outshined by the improvements of supporting actress Elaine Yiu. As far as I know, this year, Kate will be main female lead in this series, and overrall main lead in the upcomming The Beauty of the Game. I'm also not sure if she will be able to handle a character that suffers from genetic mental disorder.

TVB is definitely trying to cover every topic and profession in their productions, first immigration, and now mental disorders. This concept can be interesting, depending on how TVB chose to handle it. I hope that the mental disorder concept will not be handled ridiculously, not realistic enough, or overexaggerated. (If it's even possible to 'overexaggerate' being mental...)

I may give this series a chance to see how the story and mental patient plots turn out.
