Best Supporting Actor Satire

If you guys remember, I had written a satire from the nominees of Best Actor and Best Actress for the TVB 42nd Anniversary Awards. I had initially planned to do so for the rest of the nominees too. I had no witty lines or anything to come up with as well as no time. In the end, the continuation of the satire never happened. However, while I was looking through my unfinished drafts today, I noticed this one. I then remembered I had managed to finish the satire for Best Supporting Actor. Though I have no wish to finish it as the timing's way off, I thought I'd at least release this 'never before seen' satire...

Best Supporting Actor


Executive #1: If it weren't for Laughing Gor, we would've been stuck in a rut this whole year. Not to mention, we would've never been able to score good ratings. TVB is so giving him this award. Why don't they just rename it The Laughing Gor Award so we don't have to come up with 14 other nominations?
Executive #2: If only our jobs were so easy. Long live Laughing Gor though! He is the TVB God of 2009!
Executive #1: You are so weird sometimes.
Executive #2: But aren't I right? Michael Tse's Laughing Gor was the first positive thing to happen to the entertainment industry this year! All the gossips and ridiculous scandals were getting so annoying..
Executive #1: Agreed. Ok, nominate Ngok Wah and Kenny Wong from The Gem Of Life. I don't care if the series was a failure, we spent too much time on that production to let those darn artistes go to waste.
Executive #2: I know, I don't plan on wasting so much time on a production anymore. Isn't it great how life has so many 'shortcuts'?
Executive #1: It is and it's obvious the rest of TVB thinks so!
Executive #1: It doesn't matter how big a failure The Gem of Life was, we spent too much time putting the big cast together to let them go to waste. Nominate Ngok Wah and Kenny Wong.
Executive #2: Oh, darn! We forgot to nominate Raymond Wong for his performance in Sweetness in the Salt in Best Actor!
Executive #1: You forgot, but I didn't. I just didn't bring it up. You know, Raymond isn't exactly one of the actors we wish to promote. Raymond Wong at least, Raymond Lam yes.
Executive #2: Well then, might as well nominate him here. Oh, never forget our unexpected success Rosy Business. Ngo Ka Nin definitely deserves a nomination.
Executive #1: *sighs* I guess TVB's diabolical plan to give Ngo Ka Nin kelefe and minor supporting roles forever failed. With such a great critical reaction from the audience of his performance we'll be fried if we don't promote him now.
Executive #2: Nothing is guaranteed in life.
Executive #1: Gee, those are the deepest and most intelligent words I've ever heard you utter.
Executive #2: Hey, I know I can be rather clueless sometimes but at least I'm impartial! Unlike you who is willing up to kiss up to TVB by going by their silly biased ways!
Executive #1: Me a kiss up?! *starts to lose temper* Ok, nevermind. How about Ron? He was in Rosy Business too.
Executive #2: Pff. What happened to your little 'they're one of our top siu sangs and it'll be embarrassing if we put them in the supporting category' theory?
Executive #1: I'm taking revenge for TVB. If you noticed, we didn't nominate Ron's performance in E.U. for Best Actor despite the fact he's obviously improved. Haven't you noticed he's been filming mainland series these days? He's barely filming with us now!
Executive #2: Looks like Sammul Chan's been spending too much time with him during filming. The Mr. I Have No Contract With TVB is having an influence on him.
Executive #1: Argh, Sammul!
Executive #2: The boy's pretty smart. If I was an actor I'd probably go work in the mainland too, they pay so much better and he actually gets lead roles there.
Executive #1: Oh, shut up! Ok, now just go through all the supporting actors from the series this year: Tsui Wing, Stephen Au, Evergreen Mak, and Dominic Lam.
Executive #2: Don't forget about Derek Kwok!
Executive #1: Oh yes. Poor guy's been working his butt off for so long and all he gets is a nomination. Like he'll ever win. *evil laugh*
Executive #2: And you think I have problems. Maybe you should've joined TVB as an actor instead.
Executive #1: I did, I failed TVB's acting class. And I didn't have someone famous like Louis Koo backing me up like Ron did.
Executive #2: Wow, no wonder you dislike him so much.
Executive #1: Mhm. Ok, obviously don't forget our supporting actors of our grand productions Beyond and Born Rich.
Executive #2: Boy, is Lee Kwok Lun awesome in Beyond! Ram is hilarious and so sweet too! Kenneth is great too!
Executive #1: Yeah, yeah, they're amazing. One more nomination left!
Executive #2: *thinking*
Executive #1: Oh, Joel Chan in E.U.! It doesn't matter he had practically no screen time. He comes in so handy when we need someone to play a short guest appearance as an ex boyfriend and such! Let's give him this nomination to make him feel wanted!
Executive #2: Wow, great thinking!

TVB 42nd Anniversary Awards: Winners & Comments

Winner: Wayne Lai

It was so unexpected that Wayne would win! I don't think he was ever in the top 10 on tvb.com either. I think we all figured that with Raymond and Yoyo out of the competition, Tavia would win for sure. It was definitely a surprise that Wayne won the award, but it's definitely deserved. Who else has gained so much popularity since last year? :)

Most Improved Actress

Winner: Aimee Chan

Top 5: Aimee Chan, Sharon Chan, Queenie Chiu, Catherine Chau, and Koni Lui

I was afraid it was going to happpen, and it happened. Aimee was probably the only undeserving winner of the night. This year has confirmed that Sharon has joined the circle of artises (along with Selena Li, Bernice Liu, Natalie Tong, etc) who will never win this award. While she's good for a newcomer, I think she's simply that: a newcomer. Being a newcomer, you can't say she 'improved' as she's still so new. I pity Sharon, who has improved so much more and has so much more experience. The night would've been perfect if Sharon won.

Most Improved Actor

Winner: Pierre Ngo Ka Nin

Top 5: Ngo Ka Nin, Raymond Wong, Johnson Lee, Raymond Chiu, and Jim Tang

So there is justice in this world! After working hard for TVB in kelefe and supporting roles for almost 10 years, Ngo Ka Nin finally gets the recognition he deserves. His performance in Rosy Business was truly awesome! He's always been a great actor (and singer) so I'm looking forward to seeing more of him in the future.

My Favorite Female Character

Winner: Tavia Yeung

Top 5: Tavia Yeung, Charmaine Sheh (for both Lam Miu Miu and Lau Sam Ho), Teresa Mo, and Sheren Tang

Although I would've prefered for Charmaine's Lam Miu Miu to win, watching Tavia accept the award was so sweet. While this award seems to be crap to the artistes who win it (Think Charmaine in 2006 and Raymond in 2008), Tavia was so sincere and thankful. She literally broke into tears and asked Charmaine to come up and gave her a hug. It was also very cute when Felix presented the award. He took Tavia's hand and led her to the stage telling her she won instead of presenting it. It's reactions like Tavia's that make me smile. :D

My Favorite Male Character

Winner: Wayne Lai

Top 5: Wayne Lai, Dayo Wong, Michael Tse, Kevin Cheng, Moses Chan

If it was anyone who was going to win this award, I thought it was going to be Michael Tse's Laughing Gor. He and Chau Kau are the most hyped up characters this year, and honestly, I don't know what the hype's about. If I were to pick one of the two though, I'd choose Chau Kau simply because he was more well written and complex. However, I'm a Mak Tai Song fan. It's obvious that he wouldn't win though, but I'm happy he made it into the top 5. Of course, overlooking the prejudice TVB has against artistes who aren't contracted to them, Wayne will always be one of my fav veterans and I have no problem with him winning this award.

Best Supporting Actress

Winner: Susan Tse

Top 5: Susan Tse, Linda Chung, Fala Chen, Susanna Kwan, and Michelle Yim

With two fantastic villain roles in Rosy Business and Beyond, Susan's portrayals are flawless. The best female performance in the disappointing Beyond was hands down Susan's short appearance as the empress. She has the amazing way of communicating her eyes, making chills go down our spine. The expressions she gives are haunting. Being the weakest category this year (other than Most Improved Actress), I can't think of anyone else who I'd like to win this award.

Best Supporting Actor

Winner: Michael Tse

Top 5: Michael Tse, Ngo Wah, Lee Kwok Lun, Ngo Ka Nin, and Kenneth Ma

Again, I will never understand the hype of Laughing Gor. I have to hand it to Michael though because he gave an awesome performance. He's always been a good actor, and if it has to be an overhyped character that gets him noticed, then so be it! But now I'm thinking...when will it be Derek's time to shine?

Best Actress

Winner: Sheren Tang

Top 5: Sheren Tang, Ada Choi, Teresa Mo, Tavia Yeung, and Charmaine Sheh

I couldn't be anymore happier that this award finally falls into the exquisete Sheren's hands! It may be 5 years late, but after much waiting Sheren at last gets the title 'TV Queen.' She was so sweet during her acceptance speech! You could tell that she was so happy and nervous at the same time as her acceptance speech was the longest of all. She couldn't stop talking and even went on to say that it'd be perfect if Wayne won Beset Actor. Congratulations Sheren, we all love you!

Best Actor


Winner: Wayne Lai

Top 5: Wayne Lai, Dayo Wong, Steven Ma, Moses Chan, and Bosco Wong

You know that Wayne was definitely going to get this award, not just because other than the non-contracted Dayo the top 5 nominees stink, but because of his perfect performance. I believe that he is the only person who could've portrayed the stubborn and complex Chai Kau as well as he did. Congratulations, Wayne, you've made Sheren's Best Actress win complete! :D

Best Series

Winner: Rosy Business!

Top 5: Rosy Business, E.U., Burning Flame 3, You're Hired, and Beyond the Realm of Conscience

The most pleasant surprise of the evening! With me being my critical self, I did not enjoy Beyond as much as I hoped and was disappointed for the most part. I wasn't pleased to hear that the finale of the series recieved almost record breaking ratings of 50 points, which made us all believe that it'd take home this award. Well, I was wrong and I've never been more happy to! Rosy Business has the best script for a series in years as well as a great cast. It deserves this award every bit.

Lifetime Achievement Award

Winner: Lee Tim Sing

First we thought it'd be Lee Heung Kam. After Chan Hung Lit's death we thought it'd be him. Surprise, surprise, it turns out to be Lee Tim Sing! Another surprise but also pleasant. Lee Tim Sing is now my favorite producer and I never would've thought this award would be handed to him! Now I feel rather dumb because it was the perfect timing. With Rosy Business being such a hit, of course this award should be given to him! We're happy for you Lee Tim Sing!

Random Top 5 Nominees?

Before ending this post I'd like to add that this year's top 5 nominees are so random.

Best Actor: Steven and Bosco? Steven's a great actor but his performance in Sweetness in the Salt wasn't any more special than his usual productions. Plus, TVB's wish to release the series from the warehouse to create more success only ended in failure/mediocre ratings. And Bosco?! He wasn't even supposed to be in this category!

Best Supporting Actor: I'm pleased to see that Kenneth made it into the top 5! I'm even more proud of the adorable 'big kid' that he is the only one from Born Rich to make it into the top 5. Where did Ngo Wah come from? He was so just someone to fill up the space! Why isn't Derek even in the top 5???

Best Supporting Actress: What a shame Nancy and/or Selena didn't make it into the top 5! Where did Fala come from? I don't think it's fair she was nominated for this category in the first place, as she was clearly lead.

On the other hand, I'd like to thank TVB to recognize our 'black horse' candidates Dayo Wong, Linda Chung, and Teresa Mo. :)

The Predicted Top 5 Medalists

I was surprised to hear that all the nominees of this year's TVB Anniversary Awards will be awarded with a medal. I'm also pleased too though, because the pride and prestige of a nominee is now at nothing since practically everyone was nominated. This way, the true 'best' and 'top' get to be properly awarded. Since I promised at least 4 posts revolving around the anniversary awards, this is probably a good topic to blog about right? Especially because I have no idea how predicting the top 5 slipped my mind in my last award-related post. :P

Most Improved Actress

Predicted Top 3: Sharon Chan, Aimee Chan, Koni Lui

So if there are only 5 nominations for Most Improved Actor & Actress, does this mean all nominees will go home with a medal? I hope not, especially since there are so many that don't deserve to be nominated in the first place for this award. I'm thinking (but mostly hoping) that it'll be the top 3.

This is the most disappointing category this year! Queenie doesn't even deserve to be nominated because she is as stiff and wooden as ever. While I loved Koni in Catch Me Now, if it was a year Koni shouldn't be nominated for this award it's this year. She was simply a guest appearance for 3 episodes in You're Hired. There were no seen improvements present either. While Aimee is ok for a newcomer, it's too early for her to win. It is clear that she has the highest chances though as TVB loves to play favoritism. With any hope Sharon will win this award because she has truly improved tons. Although her character in Pages of Treasures is impossible to like, I loved her performance. Not to mention, she is adorable in Born Rich. Why Selena wasn't nominated this year though still blows my mind.

Most Improved Actor

Predicted Top 3: Ngo Ka Nin, Raymond Wong, Johnson Lee

Unlike the former set of nominees, all 5 of these men deserved the nomination. Perhaps it's just a matter of which series it's for (in Johnson's case) and their 'status' (Raymond Chiu is usually a kelefe with the exception of his supporting role in Off Pedder). Ngo Ka Nin has the highest chances of winning with his superb performance as the villain in Rosy Business. Raymond gave a great breakthrough performance in Sweetness in the Salt as well but being in the industry for over 10 years, he has surpassed the 'improved' category. In a few years time, he should be able to snatch the Best Supporting Actor award. The only reason I'm including Johnson is because the two men in Off Pedder, although lucky enough to be nominated, I believe are not lucky enough to win. However, I would've much prefered Johnson to win last year for his role in Catch Me Now. Just Love II and The Stew of Life were forgettable and typical productions.

Most Favorite TV Female Character

Predicted Top 5: Hong Nga Sze from The Gem of Life (Ada Choi), Hong Bo Kei from Rosy Business (Sheren Tang), Lam Miu Miu from You're Hired (Charmaine Sheh), Lau Sam Ho from Beyond the Realm of Conscience (Charmaine), and Yiu Kam Ling from Beyond (Tavia Yeung)

Charmaine once again makes TVB Anniversary Award history by being the first person to be nominated twice in one category! Nevertheless, I much prefer the adorable Miu Miu to the goody goody Lau Sam Ho. Sam Ho is extremely undeveloped with her only characteristic being her 3 principles. These pure, good characters are unrealistic which makes you not like them much. While Hong Bo Kei is a very well written character, Lam Miu Miu remains my favorite character this year. Although The Gem of Life was a failure in terms of ratings and reception, Ada was still praised for her role and character. Chances of her getting into the top 5 are quite high, but Yiu Kam Ling has the highest chances of actually winning. This award will most likely go to Tavia if she loses out on Best Actress.

Most Favorite TV Male Character

Predicted Top 5: Ko Cheung Sing from The Gem Of Life (Bowie Lam), Laughing Gor from E.U. (Michael Tse), Chai Kau from Rosy Business (Wayne Lai), Mak Tai Song from You're Hired (Dayo Wong), and Cheuk Yat Ming from Born Rich (Gallen Lo)

I've been told Bowie's character was compelx with multiple layers. Any character written well like that is worth being nominated, and getting into the top 5. Of course, we arrive at the ever so popular Laughing Gor. With the HK audience mourning over his death and even creating a Facebook group for him, Most Favorite TV Male Character has Michael's name written all over it. Chai Kau was also a complex and well written character, but his popularity fell slightly short of Laughing Gor. Mak Tai Song is my favorite character though, as he was intelligent, witty, and sensitive. The fact that he was the only character to make me laugh this year without using overexaggerated humor is also a big plus. Lastly, we arrive at Born Rich 's villain Cheuk Yat Ming. He's winning everyone's like, except mine although I loved the character in the beginning. Well, let's just rename this award to The Laughing Gor award.

Best Supporting Actress

Predicted Top 5: Linda Chung for The Gem of Life, Susan Tse for Rosy Business, Susanna Kwan, Michelle Yim, and Selena Li for Beyond the Realm of Conscience

Linda is this year's 'black horse' candidate for her breakthrough performance in the ever so boring and draggy Gem. Although I have not watched a full episode, from what I've seen, I can agree with the praise she's been getting. Susan Tse is an amazing actress who can portray evil with simply her eyes and glare. Susanna Kwan and Michelle Yim are simply added in because I can't think of anyone else. Honestly, this category for the most part is rather disappointing this year. As great as Selena is in Beyond and as much as I love her, Susan is too outstanding of an actress to have gone without recognition for this long.

Best Supporting Actor

Predicted Top 5: Michael Tse for E.U., Ron Ng for Rosy Business, Ngo Ka Nin for Rosy Business, Derek Kwok for D.I.E. Again, and Lee Kwok Lun for Beyond

Once again, another award with Laughing Gor written all over it. Michael's performance in E.U. was indeed realistic and great, but I feel that Derek is an even better actor. He can make all of these facial expressions that range from sad to hilarious. Derek has yet to get any recognition despite serving TVB loyally for so long. Ngo Ka Nin is another strong candidate, but he has higher chances winning Most Improved. Lee Kwok Lun is the only male in Beyond other than Ram who shines with his evil portrayal. The only reason I've included Ron is my gut feeling, otherwise I'd much prefer Raymond Wong to make it to the top 5. Kenneth's adorable and sweet portrayal in Born Rich has won me over, but the actor has been nominated for this award countless times with no positive result.

Best Actress

Predicted Top 5: Ada Choi for The Gem of Life, Sheren Tang for Rosy Business, Charmaine Sheh for Beyond, Tavia Yeung for Beyond, and Anita Yuen for Born Rich

The future looks bright as Sheren has the highest chances of winning this year! The award has been stolen from Sheren's hands for too long and it makes me very happy that it seems she will win. While I love Tavia, it is too early for her to win Best Actress. Doing so will hurt her more than anything as she will be met with criticism despite being such a versatile young actress. One year, she will win this award, 100% deserving it and 100% me supporting her. Charmaine's performance (and character) in Beyond is nothing special, but TVB is all about the most popular series right? Anita Yuen also gives a strong performance in Born Rich with her easily lovable character.

Best Actor

Predicted Top 5: Bowie Lam for The Gem of Life, Wayne Lai for Rosy Business, Dayo Wong for You're Hired, Moses Chan for Beyond, and Gallen Lo for Born Rich

Other than the fact that he delivered an amazing performance, Wayne will most likely win because well...there's no one else who should be or can be given this award. Bowie, Dayo, and Gallen are all deserving nominees. With The Gem of Life being already long forgotten and Dayo and Gallen not contracted, the three have no chances of winning. Moses is only included because of the undeserved success of Beyond. While winning Best Actor just a year after wining Best Supporting seems a little quick, Wayne definitely deserves this award.

Best Series

Predicted Top 5: E.U., Rosy Business, You're Hired, Beyond the Realm of Conscience, and Born Rich

E.U. was the first series that gained our attention in the dull year of 2009 with it's movie like camera angles, action, and the popular Laughing Gor. Rosy Business boosts the great leads Sheren and Wayne as well as one of the best scripts in a long time. You're Hired stars the comedy king Dayo himself, making it one of the best comedies for as long as we can remember. Then, we have Beyond and Born Rich. Simply because they are grand productions they will make it to the top. Beyond will obviously take home this award, despite the script being just mediocre. Born Rich started off very strong, but it has declined and started to drag. What I regret? Voting for Born Rich when I should've voted for Rosy.

TVB 42nd Anniversary Award Picks

The nominees are finally out! Yikes, you know it's been a disappointing year for TVB when you go down the nominee list constantly saying 'ick' in your mind. Also, this list is rather inaccurrate. Plus, TVB didn't make the best decision to change it to top 15 instead of top 10.

It angers me that Bosco was able to be nominated for Best Actor for Burning Flame 3 while Aimee Chan was nominated for Best Supporting Actress when both were of equal standing in the series. I also wish that Joe had been nominated for Born Rich instead of When Easterly Showers Fall on the Sunny West. While I've never been a fan of Joe, I much prefer him as the charming and hardworking "Topman" in Born Rich than the annoying guy in Easterly. I absolutely loved Dayo in You're Hired and every series he's in. Since he's not contracted to TVB though, he doesn't have any chance of winning despite most likely getting into the top 5. Wayne still has my vote and deserves it the most for his superb performance in Chai Kau in Rosy Business.

Best Actress

It's obvious that The Gem of Life has been long forgotten and it's a surprise that all 3 leading ladies are nominated for it. Ada delivered a great performance and deserves the nomination but it's pretty clear that she won't win. Sheren is an exquisette and versatile actress who deserved this award four years ago for her performance in War and Beauty. She portrayed her character perfectly. Now that she has Catherine Tsang on her side (who is ironically the one who supported Gigi for Best Actress instead of Sheren in 2004) Sheren has a high chance of winning. On the other hand, Tavia also has a high chance of winning as well as a lot of support from TVB. After all, one of the main reasons the Anniversary Awards was dealyed was so TVB could be crowned TV Queen right?

Best Supporting Actor

Hands down, Michael will win. Laughing Gor was way over hyped, but I still loved Michael's performance. Fans of Laughing Gor are going to kill me for saying this, but I believe having the chance to star in a movie was already a great and rare enough opportunity for Michael. I really hope Derek will win this award because he was awesome as Ching Yee in D.I.E. Again and an extradorinary actor in general. He's still so underrated and hasn't ever had the chance to be a main lead. It's rather hilarious Joel is here because while I'm not against him he not only didn't have an insignificent character he had probably less than 20 minutes screen time in all of E.U. Is Ron being demoted to supporting actor, just when he's starting to improve? Sheeh, TVB. Talk about being unfair and stupid when giving artistes chances. Pierre Ngo also did an excellent job in Rosy Business but he has a better chance winning Most Improved. Raymond Wong's role in Sweetness in the Salt was clearly a main lead, just behind Steven, and yet he's nominated for Best Supporting Actor? Not to mention he has one of the smallest spots on the series' poster. While it would've been a smart decision as he would have a higher chance of winning, it's not a very smart decision since he's against Michael, Derek, and Pierre.

Best Supporting Actress

One of the things about awards is there is usually more than one deserving winner but in the end, there can only be one 'best.' There are also best performances by the younger artistes and best performances by veterans. Sometimes I wish that each category could be split into two sub categories exactly for that reason. Susan's performance in Rosy Business was amazing and so convincing. Selena lost out on being nominated for Most Improved Actress, otherwise she would've been a sure win. While I think she is building up to becoming Best Supporting material, I decided to give my vote to Susan. I would've prefered Nancy to be nominated for D.I.E. Again instead and for Joyce to have been nominated for The King of Snooker. It's surprising to see all the wifes from Rosy Business nominated. Huh, it was pretty clear The Stew of Life was Fala's first lead role and yet she was nominated in the Best Supporting category? That doesn't seem fair. Same with Christine.

100% supporting Dayo's Mak Tai Song! Unfortunately, he has low chances of winning for the same reason as why he won't win Best Actor stated above. I'm thinking Michael will win though...I mean in the case he does not win Best Supporting (and lose to Derek hopefully?) then TVB won't let him go home empty handed. Poor Dayo. Moses should be nominated for his character in Beyond the Realm of Conscience as opposed to The Gem of Life where everyone hated him.

Charmaine has made history once again for the Anniversary Awards! I really hope that she will take home the award for Lam Miu Miu. I found Miu Miu so much more lovable, adorable, and real in You're Hired. Meanwhile, Lau Sam Ho is too 'good' and unrealistic. If Tavia doesn't win Best Actress, this award will most likely be given to her. Anita's Yat-Sum/Rene is also one of my favorites.

Most Improved Actor

While Pierre is indeed an excellent and underrated actor, I just loved Raymond in Sweetness in the Salt. If Johnson were to win this award, I would've prefered him to win it last year for his role BT/Ben in Catch Me Now. I haven't watched Off Pedder, so I can't speak for the last two nominees. It's a shame Patrick Tang, Chan Chin Pang, and Him Law weren't nominated. TVB also thinks that this year's artistes haven't improved and yet they left out the true most improved...

Most Improved Actress

The most disappointing cateogry. Selena isn't even nominated! Queenie is still too stiff and unnatural. While I love Koni, it's ridiculous and unfair she was nominated for only once series where she appeared for only 3 episodes. Why is a ke le fe like Catherine nominated? It's too soon for Queenie, Koni, Catherine, and Aimee to win this award. Sharon is the strongest contender, and if Selena can't win it, Sharon deserves it. While I don't like Sharon as much as Selena, I still really like her and think she's becoming a great actress.

Best Series

It's been a weak year full of mediocre series, but the highlights of the year are truly highlights. It's a tough category, but in the end I chose Born Rich because of it's great cast, engaging plot, and mix of drama and comedy. You're Hired is still one of my all time favorites and I would wish it could get an honorable mention or something but that obviously won't happen. Nevertheless, Beyond has the highest chance of winning.

If it weren't for the hilarious and lovable collaboration of Ronald, Edmound, and Alex, Beautiful Cooking wouldn't be half as good. The three are great and funny together. The award will most likely go to the guys of Super Trio.

Whether I enjoy watching Beautiful Cooking or Super Trio more varies from episode to episode. While I have to admit I tend to enjoy Super Trio more as it's games are more varied and change a lot, I think it's time for Beautiful Cooking to win since I believe Super Trio has already won this award many times.

My favorite TVB blog to visit has got to be Selena's. You probably know that Selena has decided to continue her studies and has been returning to Canada to go to university. She's updated her blog letting us know how she's doing in university as well as her life. You can tell that Selena is a very sweet, cute, innocent, and youthful girl from how she writes. Not to mention, she has just posted an adorable picture of her dressing as a pirate for Halloween. :)

TVB 42nd Anniversary Awards: My Choice, The Right Choice, and TVB's Choice

TVB's 42nd Anniversary is just around the corner, but the nominations list has yet to be released. 2009 has been a pretty weak year for TVB, with some highlights though. This post predicts who will win this year, and get into the top 5. After I watch the awards show, I will go back to reflect on whether I was wrong or right. I'll also express who I want to win as well as who deserves to win.

Best Series

Predicted Top 5: E.U., Rosy Business, You're Hired, Beyond the Realm of Conscience, and Born Rich.
What I Want to Win: You're Hired
While it doesn't have the best script, You're Hired is the most enjoyable and unique comedy of the year. It is my choice for best series. However, my vote may shift to either Beyond or Born Rich as I start to watch it in the next couple weeks.
What Should Win: You're Hired, Beyond, or Born Rich
You're Hired deserves to win, but Beyond and Born Rich deserve to win if it turns out that both series are as good as it was hyped up to be.
What Will Win: Beyond or Born Rich
So much promotion was given to these two grand productions, it's obvious TVB has faith in them. I have a gut feeling that Beyond will take home the award though.

Best Actor

Predicted Top 5: Dayo Wong for You're Hired, Wayne Lai for Rosy Business, Gallen Lo for Born Rich (I'm coming up blank for the last two finalists though...I hope Moses and Kevin don't get into the top 5 for Beyond though.)
Who I Want to Win: Dayo Wong
Truly the comedy king, he brings Mak Tai Song to life. He portrays the many sides of the character flawlessly. Since he's not contracted to TVB though, he doesn't have a chance of winning. Hope he gets into the top 5 though!
Who Should Win: Wayne Lai
Wayne has been working hard for over 20 years, and finally recieved recognition last year by taking home the Best Supporting Actor award. I believe that no one else could've played the role of Chai Kau, a stubborn man who started from the bottom to the top so well.
Who Will Win: ???
While Wayne is finally getting some second looks from TVB, it is still a question on whether TVB will agree to give him the Best Actor Award. Gallen, while he will most likely get into the top 5, will not win. He's won three times already and he's no longer contracted to TVB, so his chances are slim. Plus, it's time for someone else to win.
Additional Comments: I'm pretty sure Roger is being for The Threshold of a Persona. I would much prefer that he was nominated for D.I.E. Again this year and nominated last year for his villain role in Last One Standing as opposed to D.I.E.

Best Actress

Predicted Top 5: Sheren Tang for Rosy Business, Tavia Yeung for Beyond, Charmaine Sheh for Beyond, Kenix Kwok for Born Rich (I've got no 5th choice...I have a feeling Jamie and Anita won't get into the top for some reason.)
Who I Want to Win: Without any hesitation, Sheren Tang for Best Actress! She is the Fourth Mistress inside and out with her amazing and realistic portrayal. She deserved this award many years ago!

Who Will Win: Tavia Yeung for Beyond
Two years ago, TVB didn't give a second glance at Tavia. Since winning best supporting actress, she has been promoted a lot. They are even overdoing it at this point, as they're pushing her to be the next TV Queen with her villain role.
Additional Comments: As much as I love Tavia, I don't believe it's her time yet. It also feels ridiculous that Tavia would recieve the award before Sheren. I believe that she will win the Best Actress award eventually, just not one year after winning Best Supporting.

Best Supporting Actor

I know I'll go nuts when I see that Derek doesn't win this award. He is more than just a supporting actor, he's amazing! He can portray any emotion and any expression. Cheung Ching Yee was such a sweet and cute character as well. Derek should've won long ago! What a joke he was nominated for Most Improved Actor last year!

I still don't get the hype over Laughing Gor, but I have to admit Michael's performance in the series was superb. TVB is definitely standing by his side too since Laughing Gor was the first positive thing to happen to TVB in the horrid year of 2009.
Additional Comments: It's funny how just in February, everyone was already placing Michael in the Best Supporting section of the 'Who I Want to Win in This Year's Anniversary Awards' list in their heads. I'd still prefer much more for Derek to win.

Best Supporting Actress

This year has been a weak one for all the supporting actresses. There is no one in particular that I actually want to win. Instead, I just have a list of ladies I don't mind winning.

Natalie's refreshing role as the smart and headstrong single mother On-Yee was one of the few merits of Threshold. She has improved immensly and I like her even more than before after watching. Nancy was adorable in D.I.E. Again and her chemistry with Derek was sweet, so I don't mind either of these two winning. It's too early to judge Selena's performance in Beyond, as we don't even know about her character yet. However, Selena is definitely becoming Best Supporting material.

Lam Miu Miu is representative of the material girl. However, she is adorable and you will quickly grow to love her. You'll fall in love with her tough attitude and soft interior. She soon becomes a caring and intelligent person thanks to her lover Mak Tai Song.

TVB is most likely going to hand Charmaine this award for her character in Beyond. I feel that Lau Sam Ho is going to turn out to be an unreastically good character so while I'll probably enjoy watching her, I'm shying away from her being my favorite character. I don't mind her winning though.

Who I Want to Win: All five guys above have improved this year and I like them a lot. It's a hard decision. My vote would have to go to Raymond Wong. He did an amazing job in Sweetness in the Salt and was cute in A Great Way to Care. With A Great Way to Care being warehoused and Sweetness in the Salt doing only a mediocre job after being released from the warehouse though, Raymond has next to no chance of winning.

I don't mind Patrick winning if that's what decided. He has had improvements and different characters this year. However, I'd prefer for him to not win since I know that people will complain and hate Patrick even more. I can tell he's put in a lot of effort this year and doesn't need the hatred. Personally, I wish Patrick would just focus on his music career.
Additional Comments: I would love Chan Chin Pang to win as well as he's portrayed such different roles in one year. Then again, he just returned to TVB so they probably don't want him to win yet. Actually, Chin Pang is beyond 'Most Improved' and more like 'Best Supporting' being in the entertainment industry for over 10 years. Him Law is one of my favorite newcomers but since he only has one series under his belt this year, his chances of winning are slim as well. Oddly enough, this is one of the awards I'm most anxious to see the results of.

Most Improved Actress

She deserved this award years ago. Selena has quickly become one of my favorites with her beauty and sweet image. She has portrayed various roles very well and has what it takes to be a future fa dan.

Additional Comments: By the way, just because I've put people into my top 5 doesn't mean I like them or think they deserve to win. I think Aimee is a great newcommer with a lot of potential, she just needs to improve her fluency in Cantonese. While Mandy has supposedly improved, I hope she doesn't win. Natalie Tong should've won this award by now, I love watching her. The only reason Toby is here because I feel like she's nominated every single year despite having little improvement.
