A Fistful of Stances

Cast: Kevin Cheng, Tavia Yeung, Kenneth Ma, Yuen Qiu, Shirley Yeung, Selena Li, Natalie Tong, Nancy Wu
Length: 25 episodes
Genre: Pre-modern Drama, Martial Arts
Producer: Lee Tim Sing
Scriptwriters: Cheung Wah Biu & Chan Ching Yee

Synopsis:
Au Yeung Wai Lan (Yuen Qiu), owner of a martial arts training school, is reunited with her long-lost son Koo Yu Cheung (Kevin Cheng) after years of agonizing separation. On his return home, Cheung is shocked to find that his younger brother Koo Yu Tong (Kenneth Ma) has been critically ill and that his father was murdered long ago by Wing Tak (Dominic Lam), the existing director of a pharmaceutical company and a bitter old foe of the Koo’s. Cheung has never been into kung-fu but shows glimpses of his potential when he strikes back at the impudent, arrogant Wing Man Kwan (Jacky Heung), also the son of Tak. Pinning all her hopes on Cheung, Lan not only teaches him a special set of kung-fu skills created by the family, but also registers him for the Guangdong Boxing Championship Tournament. Out of the blue, Cheung’s opponent in the final turns out to be Kwan.

Cheung starts losing his bearings after achieving growing success and recognition in the field of martial arts. Caught in the love triangle between Lan’s apprentice Ying Ngan Ming (Natalie Tong), his dream girl Chow Mui Mui (Nancy Wu) and himself, Cheung is utterly confused and exhausted, which later causes his failure in the final tournament.

Comments: Apparently Selena's character is not important enough to appear in the synopsis. :( I'm only looking forward to seeing her pair up with Kenneth again. The fact that it's a Lee Tim Sing series also makes it slightly more tempting. Unfortunately, my interest in TVB is going down down down....

  1. hi Iris!

been a while since i've commented on your posts!
i'm actually really looking forward to this series, being a KC fan haha
and i think the theme of kung-fu is very appealing (:
i'd really like to see Selena and Kenneth pair up again, though i guess that isn't the main focus?

  2. Lol, I know. I don't update nearly as much as before. Sigh, disinterest in TVB.

Kenneth and Selena's love plot must be so unimportant and will probably get really little screen time. It hasn't even been mentioned in trailers or synopsies. :(

  3. i wasn't looking forward to this serial at all. not the kinda genre that i like. with lots of fast forwarding, at around 16 eps or so, i began to enjoy it more and stopped the forwarding. haha.

a question: who is this jacky heung (wing tak's son?) i've never seen him act before? is he new?

omg, in your synopsis, cheung lost the final tournament?! i'm at this point where he just won the guangdong championship, going to the finals. he LOST?! argh! now i can't wait for tvb to finish airing the show faster!

  4. I'm at ep 8 right now I think. This series feels like a premodern rip off of Moonlight Resonance mixed w/ kung fu.

Jacky Heung's been in a couple movies I think. He's still considered a newcomer, and this is his 1st TVB series. His voice sounds odd to me...

Lol, I hate TVB's synopsises. They're either inaccurate, filled w/ spoilers, or just poorly written. When is AFOS finished airing? I never really pay attention since I wait to dl the English subbed versions of series.
